Nochebuena, Spanish for “the Good Night,” is celebrated every December 24th in Spain, Latin Countries and the Philippines. As a Filipino, who immigrated to America in the early 90s, our Nochebuena celebration was always a bigger deal than Christmas Day festivities. So when I heard about a Nochebuena pop-up happening right here in New York City, I had to check it out! The company behind the production of the pop-up was gracious enough to invite me and a guest to witness their opening night firsthand + create some content.
Nestled in Long Island City, Noche Buena emerges as a vibrant celebration of Latin American holiday traditions. This unique pop-up bar transforms the typical Christmas experience, inviting guests to immerse themselves in a festive journey through diverse cultural celebrations. Visitors can savor traditional holiday drinks like Coquito and Ponche, indulge in comforting treats such as empanadas and tostones, and bask in an atmosphere alive with the colors, sounds, and flavors of Navidad.
Spanning two floors, the bar pays homage to holiday traditions from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and beyond, creating a warm and spirited gathering place that captures the heart of Latin American Christmas joy — and it’s not too distant cousin, the Philippines. Despite our flag not being present in the abundance of holiday decorations, I still had to represent and embrace the Nochebuena energy.
Located at Skybar and Lounge in Long Island City, this pop-up promises an unforgettable holiday experience that celebrates cultural heritage with authentic flavors, music, and community spirit.
