Who knew an indoor amusement park, with a designated adults-only night, existed in Red Hook, Brooklyn!
My boyfriend and I surely didn’t until we came across Shipwrecked NYC! So we took the quick drive down on a Thursday for their adults-only evening of games and fun. From the outside, you’d never guess that this multi-level establishment housed an 18-hole miniature golf course, three escape rooms, an arcade and a fully-stocked bar! But like they say, looks can be deceiving because once we got inside, we were pleasantly surprised!
As a 90s kid who grew up on arcades and video games, I was like a little girl in a candy shop, as we waited in the arcade room for our escape room time slot. I wanted to play all the games! Which we eventually got to do later on.
Escape Room
But first, the Mission Reactor escape room! Briefly prepped (but not really) by the manager, we stepped foot into a chamber-like room as the door closed and locked behind us. It took us a while to realize that the entryway we were locked in was actually when the game clock started. With some trial and error, a lot of guess work and pressing random spots on the walls, we escaped the room in record time! To note, the occasional help we received through the overhead speaker was also helpful. The manager even ran out to greet us when we got out, in excitement, because not many have actually completed the room!
Bar & Arcade Room
Feeling like a million bucks, we headed over to the bar to grab some drinks before we let our competitive spirits soar in the arcade room. As a former basketball player, the shooting games are always my favorite. I’m always trying to set a new record for myself. We also had to get a game going on the ice hockey table, and my boyfriend even tried his hand at a beer pong inspired game.
Notable arcade room features: old-school skeeball, classic Jurassic Park video game, key master and claw games, a cluster of old-school 8-bit games, prizes to be won!
Indoor Mini-Golf
To close out the evening, we grabbed our golf balls and clubs for a friendly, 18-hole mini golf course competition. I appreciated that their course wasn’t like other ones I’ve played on before. Their course offers some unpredictability and holes that require some extra effort. We also enjoyed the various themes each hole had, and opportunities for photo ops at designated areas.
Overall, I’d definitely come back on a Thursday evening to Shipwrecked NYC, and highly advise my friends and colleagues to do so as well. And if you’re wondering, yes, kids are allowed, and you can even book your parties and events there!
